Description

This Bananas Foster Bread Pudding combines the rich, comforting texture of bread pudding with the sweet, caramelized flavors of bananas foster. Topped with a warm, spiced sauce, this dessert is the perfect indulgence for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 16-ounce loaf Challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 4 cups milk

  • 5 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup sugar

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/8 teaspoon cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon rum extract

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 3 bananas, sliced

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bread Pudding:

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

    • Place the cubed Challah bread into a large greased baking dish (9×13 inch or similar).

    • In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sugar until well combined.

    • Pour the egg mixture over the cubed bread, making sure the bread is well soaked. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the mixture.

  • Bake the Bread Pudding:

    • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread pudding is golden brown on top and set in the center.

  • Make the Bananas Foster Sauce:

    • While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the sauce. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

    • Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and rum extract. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

    • Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 3-5 minutes, until slightly thickened.

    • Stir in the heavy cream and sliced bananas, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the bananas are tender and the sauce is creamy.

  • Serve:

    • Once the bread pudding is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Serve warm with the Bananas Foster sauce poured on top. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the rum extract with a small amount of actual rum for a more authentic flavor (if desired).

  • For an extra indulgent touch, top with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
