½ cup caramel sauce, plus extra for serving
-
1 box (13.25 to 15.25 ounces) spice or yellow cake mix
-
1 ½ sticks (6 ounces) cold unsalted butter
-
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Spread the apple pie filling evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish.
-
Drizzle ½ cup caramel sauce over the apples.
-
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apple and caramel layer.
-
Cut cold butter into thin slices and distribute evenly over the top of the cake mix.
-
Bake for 45–50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
-
Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce.
- Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
-
For best results, use cold butter to achieve a crisp, golden topping.
-
Spice cake mix adds a warm, cinnamon flavor; yellow cake mix offers a sweeter, more neutral base.
