Description

Cornmeal Fried Fish features a crispy, flavorful coating made with seasoned cornmeal and spices, perfectly frying tender fish fillets to golden perfection. This classic Southern-style dish is easy to make and delivers a satisfying crunch with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups white or yellow cornmeal

  • ¼ cup flour

  • 1 tablespoon paprika

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 2 teaspoons lemon pepper

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Prepare Coating:
In a shallow dish, combine cornmeal, flour, paprika, salt, lemon pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  • Prepare Fish:
Pat fish fillets dry with paper towels. Optionally, season fish lightly with salt and pepper.

  • Coat Fish:
Dredge each fish fillet thoroughly in the cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  • Heat Oil:
Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  • Fry Fish:
Carefully add coated fish fillets to the hot oil, cooking 3-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Do not overcrowd the pan.

  • Drain and Serve:
Remove fish with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with lemon wedges and your choice of sides.

Notes

  • Use firm, white fish fillets for best results.

  • Adjust cayenne pepper for desired spice level.

  • Serve with tartar sauce, coleslaw, or hush puppies for a classic meal.
