Description
This creamy eggnog jam is the perfect festive treat for the holiday season. It combines the rich, spiced flavors of eggnog with a sweet, smooth texture, making it an ideal spread for toast, muffins, or even a fun addition to holiday desserts. The dark rum adds an extra layer of authentic eggnog flavor, but it can be omitted for a non-alcoholic version.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups eggnog (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 2 tablespoons dark rum (optional, but recommended for a true eggnog flavor)
- 1 package (3 oz) powdered pectin (optional, if you prefer a thicker jam)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the eggnog, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk to ensure everything is well mixed and there are no lumps.
- Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly. Once it begins to thicken (about 5-7 minutes), lower the heat to medium-low.
- Add the unsalted butter to the mixture and stir until it’s fully incorporated and the jam is smooth.
- If using, add the dark rum and stir to combine. Let the mixture continue to simmer for another 3-5 minutes, until it reaches a smooth, jam-like consistency.
- If you’d like a thicker jam, you can add the powdered pectin at this point. Stir it in and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to activate the pectin.
- Once the jam has reached the desired consistency, remove it from the heat. Let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Pour the jam into sterilized jars, leaving a bit of space at the top, and let it cool completely. If storing for later use, make sure the jars are sealed tightly and refrigerate. The jam can be kept for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
Notes
- If you don’t have powdered pectin and prefer a thinner consistency, you can skip it entirely.
- For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the dark rum.
- This jam works great as a topping for pancakes, waffles, toast, or even as a filling for holiday pastries.
- Make sure to sterilize your jars before storing the jam to ensure it stays fresh.
