Description

These crispy fried mushrooms are a perfect appetizer or snack, coated in a seasoned breading and fried until golden and crunchy. Paired with a creamy, tangy Cool Ranch dip, they make for a deliciously irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Fried Mushrooms:

  • 10 oz button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Oil for frying

For the Cool Ranch Dip:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 tablespoons buttermilk (for desired consistency)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Fried Mushrooms:
    • Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
    • Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls. In the first bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In the third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
    • Dip each mushroom into the flour mixture, coating it evenly, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat with the panko breadcrumb mixture.
    • Fry the coated mushrooms in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Prepare the Cool Ranch Dip:
    • In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream (or Greek yogurt), lemon juice, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt, and black pepper.
    • Add buttermilk 1 tablespoon at a time until the dip reaches your desired consistency.
    • Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the crispy fried mushrooms hot with the Cool Ranch dip on the side.

Notes

  • If you prefer a lighter option, you can bake the breaded mushrooms at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  • Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
