Description
This guilt-free crunchy snack is perfect for when you’re craving something crispy but want to avoid unhealthy options. These tortilla chips are fried in avocado or vegetable oil, then seasoned with your favorite spices. Simple, tasty, and better for you!
Ingredients
- Tortillas (choose your preferred type)
- Avocado oil or vegetable oil (for frying)
- Seasoning of your choice (e.g., salt, paprika, garlic powder, or chili powder)
Instructions
- Prepare the Tortillas: Cut the tortillas into triangles or strips, depending on your preferred chip shape.
- Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat enough avocado or vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the pan over medium heat. The oil should be hot but not smoking.
- Fry the Tortilla Pieces: Working in batches, add the tortilla pieces to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Be sure not to overcrowd the pan to ensure even frying.
- Drain the Chips: Remove the fried tortilla pieces from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Season the Chips: While still hot, sprinkle your chosen seasoning over the chips. Toss gently to ensure an even coating.
- Serve and Enjoy: Let the chips cool slightly before serving with your favorite dip or just as they are!
Notes
- You can use store-bought or homemade tortillas. Whole wheat or gluten-free tortillas work great for a healthier alternative.
- For a lower-calorie option, try baking the tortilla pieces instead of frying them. Simply spray them lightly with oil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Adjust the seasoning to taste—experiment with different combinations like smoked paprika, cayenne, or even nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.
