With the bold flavors of dill pickles, cheddar cheese, and a hint of garlic and onion, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Coated in crunchy pecans and topped with fresh chives, it’s a deliciously unique twist on the traditional cheese ball.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup chopped dill pickles (about 34 medium-sized pickles)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried dill)
  • 2 tablespoons pickle juice (optional for extra flavor)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup chopped pecans (optional, for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped chives (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until well blended.
  • Add the chopped dill pickles, fresh dill (or dried dill), garlic powder, onion powder, and pickle juice (if using). Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Shape the cheese mixture into a ball using your hands.
  • If using pecans, roll the cheese ball in the chopped pecans to coat the outside.
  • Transfer the cheese ball to a serving platter and garnish with freshly chopped chives.
  • Chill the cheese ball in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve with crackers, chips, or fresh veggies for dipping.

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger pickle flavor, you can add extra chopped dill pickles or pickle juice.
  • The pecan coating is optional but adds a nice crunch to the cheese ball.
  • This cheese ball can be made a day in advance to save time for your event.
