Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (14-15 ounce) can salmon, well drained
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced (about 1 cup)
- 1/2 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt (or substitute with 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt and 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder)
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup parsley, finely minced
Instructions
- Prepare the vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and red bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
- Combine the ingredients: In a large bowl, flake the drained salmon with a fork. Add the sautéed onions and bell pepper, panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt (or salt and garlic powder), black pepper, and minced parsley. Mix everything together until well combined.
- Form the patties: Use your hands to form the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
- Cook the patties: Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Serve: Remove the patties from the skillet and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or side dish.
Notes
- You can substitute the panko breadcrumbs with regular breadcrumbs if preferred.
- If you like your salmon patties spicier, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the mixture.
- For a lighter option, try baking the patties in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
