Description

This Easy Sticky Chicken Rice Bowl combines tender, savory chicken coated in a sweet and sticky sauce, paired with fluffy rice and fresh vegetables. It’s a simple, one-bowl meal that’s perfect for a satisfying dinner. Customizable with your favorite veggies or proteins, this dish offers a wonderful balance of flavors and textures that will become a weeknight favorite.

Ingredients

  • Boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • Cooked white rice (or brown rice)
  • Soy sauce
  • Honey or brown sugar
  • Garlic (minced)
  • Ginger (minced or grated)
  • Rice vinegar
  • Sesame oil
  • Green onions (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Optional: broccoli, carrots, or any other veggies you like

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces, season with salt and pepper, and cook in sesame oil in a hot skillet for 7-10 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • Make the Sticky Sauce: In the same pan, sauté garlic and ginger in sesame oil for 1 minute. Add soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), and rice vinegar. Stir, bring to a simmer, and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Combine the Chicken and Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the pan and toss in the sauce until evenly coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve the Bowl: Spoon rice into bowls, top with sticky chicken and sauce, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use Chicken Thighs: Chicken thighs are juicier and more flavorful but chicken breasts work too. Avoid overcooking breasts to prevent them from drying out.
  • Spicy Option: Add sriracha or chili flakes to the sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Rice Variations: Use brown rice, jasmine rice, or cauliflower rice as alternatives.
  • Add Fresh Herbs: Top with cilantro or basil for a refreshing contrast.
  • Enhance the Flavor: Add a squeeze of lime juice or a splash of fish sauce to the sticky sauce for extra depth.
