Ingredients
For the Chicken Marinade:
- 6 pounds chicken pieces with bones
- 1 cup yellow prepared mustard
- 1 tablespoon season salt
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
For the Chicken Crust:
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons season salt
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- Oil for frying
Instructions
-
Marinate the Chicken:
a. In a large bowl, combine the mustard, season salt, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and dried parsley flakes.
b. Coat the chicken pieces in the mustard mixture, making sure each piece is well coated.
c. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for the best flavor. -
Prepare the Chicken Crust:
a. In a large shallow dish, whisk together the flour, season salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
b. Remove the marinated chicken pieces from the refrigerator and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring each piece is evenly coated. -
Fry the Chicken:
a. In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat oil over medium-high heat. You’ll need enough oil to submerge the chicken pieces halfway.
b. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken pieces to the oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 8-10 minutes per side, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
c. Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
-
Serve:
a. Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy hot with your favorite sides!
Notes
- If you prefer a spicier kick, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour crust mixture.
- This recipe works great with various chicken parts like drumsticks, thighs, or wings.
- For extra crispiness, you can double dredge the chicken by dipping it back into the mustard marinade and then coating it in the flour mixture again.
