Description

Old Fashioned Goulash is a hearty and comforting one-pot meal made with ground beef, elbow macaroni, diced tomatoes, and a flavorful blend of seasonings. This classic dish is simple to make, filling, and perfect for a family dinner. Topped with shredded cheddar cheese, it’s sure to become a new favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Brown the Beef:
In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon. Once browned and cooked, drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté for about 3 minutes.

  • Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings:
Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juices), tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  • Cook the Pasta:
Add the elbow macaroni to the pot and stir everything together. Cover and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to ensure the pasta cooks evenly.

  • Serve and Enjoy:
Remove from heat and serve immediately. If desired, top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Notes

  • Feel free to add extra vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for more flavor and nutrition.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
