Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Beat until combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until fully combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Scoop Dough: Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing each cookie about 2 inches apart.
- Bake the Cookies: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are set and slightly puffed. The edges should be just starting to turn golden brown.
- Cool the Cookies: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost the Cookies: Once the cookies are cool, spread a generous amount of cream cheese frosting on top of each one.
- Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy these decadent cookies with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!
Notes
- The red food coloring can be adjusted based on how vibrant you want the cookies to be.
- If you prefer homemade cream cheese frosting, simply combine 8 oz cream cheese, 4 cups powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and beat until smooth.
- For extra festive flair, consider sprinkling some red sugar crystals or sprinkles on top of the frosting.
