Description

These Salted Caramel Sugar Cookies are the perfect combination of sweet and salty. Soft and chewy sugar cookies are filled with melted caramel and topped with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, making each bite irresistibly delicious. A delightful twist on classic sugar cookies, these treats are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 10 caramel candies, melted (or ⅓ cup caramel sauce)
  • Flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and beat until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Melt the caramel candies in the microwave or on the stovetop until smooth. If using caramel sauce, simply warm it slightly to make it easier to mix.
  • Fold the melted caramel into the cookie dough.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  • Slightly flatten each dough ball with the back of a spoon or your fingers.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cookies are set.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the cookies with flaky sea salt.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • You can use store-bought caramel sauce as a shortcut if you prefer.
  • For extra caramel flavor, drizzle some caramel sauce over the top of the cooled cookies.
  • Make sure not to overbake the cookies to ensure they stay soft and chewy.
