Description

A comforting and indulgent dessert, Southern Banana Cobbler is a perfect blend of sweet, ripe bananas, buttery cobbler filling, and a crunchy, cinnamon-spiced streusel topping. A delightful treat for any occasion, this dessert will be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Streusel Topping:

  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup self-rising flour
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup uncooked old-fashioned oats
  • ½ cup chopped pecans

For the Cobbler Filling:

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons banana extract (optional)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or similar size.
  • For the streusel topping: In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, self-rising flour, softened butter, oats, and chopped pecans. Mix until crumbly and well combined. Set aside.
  • For the cobbler filling: In a separate bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour, sugar, milk, and banana extract (if using). Stir in the melted butter until fully incorporated.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, then layer the sliced bananas evenly over the batter.
  • Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the bananas.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the cobbler is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Allow the cobbler to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, serve the cobbler warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
  • If you don’t have banana extract, the recipe will still turn out delicious with just the natural flavor of the ripe bananas.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving for best results.
