Description

Soft, buttery, and slightly sweet, these homemade Texas Roadhouse-style rolls are the perfect dinner companion. Fluffy on the inside with a golden crust, they’re a must-have for any family meal or holiday gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)

  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk (105–110°F)

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature (1/2 stick)

  • 1 large egg, room temperature

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  • Add sugar, softened butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.

  • Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  • Knead dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  • Punch down dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.

  • Cut into 2-inch squares or rounds and place on a greased baking sheet.

  • Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until puffy.

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Bake rolls for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  • Brush immediately with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.

  • For extra soft rolls, brush with butter before and after baking.

  • These freeze well; reheat in the oven or microwave when ready to serve.
