Description

This flavorful Caribbean pepper steak recipe combines tender sirloin steak with a savory sauce, fresh vegetables, and aromatic herbs. It’s a quick and easy dish packed with bold flavors that will transport your taste buds straight to the islands.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sirloin steak
  • ¼ cup beef stock
  • ½ green bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ red bell pepper, sliced
  • ¼ onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ½ tablespoon seasoning salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon ginger paste (or freshly grated ginger)
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 4 sprigs of thyme
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

Instructions

  • Slice the sirloin steak into thin strips, against the grain.
  • In a small bowl, mix the beef stock, soy sauce, seasoning salt, cornstarch, and ginger paste to create the sauce mixture. Set aside.
  • Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the steak strips to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes, until browned and cooked to your liking.
  • Add the sliced green and red bell peppers, onion, garlic, and thyme to the skillet, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  • Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the steak and vegetables. Stir well to combine.
  • Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens and coats the steak and vegetables.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy with rice or your favorite side!

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of ginger paste depending on how much ginger flavor you prefer.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add some chopped Scotch bonnet pepper or hot sauce to taste.
  • For a lighter version, substitute the sirloin steak with chicken or tofu.
