Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup butter, softened (2 sticks)
- 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon table salt
- 12 oz mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 package holiday M&Ms or Peanut Butter M&Ms, divided (use about 1/2 of the package for mixing into the dough and reserve the rest for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet or any oven-safe skillet with butter or non-stick spray.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Add the Chocolate Chips and M&Ms: Stir in the mini semi-sweet chocolate chips and half of the M&Ms (reserve the other half for topping).
- Transfer to Skillet: Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared skillet, pressing it down gently.
- Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is slightly soft but set. You can insert a toothpick into the center to check; it should come out with a few crumbs, not wet batter.
- Add Toppings: Once the cookie is out of the oven, immediately sprinkle the reserved M&Ms on top. Let the skillet cookie cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Serve: Serve warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute Peanut Butter M&Ms for a richer flavor or stick with classic holiday M&Ms for a more festive look.
- If you don’t have a skillet, you can use a regular 9-inch round cake pan instead, but you may need to adjust the baking time slightly.
- Make sure to not overbake the cookie if you like a soft, chewy center.
