Ingredients
Scale
For the Donuts:
- 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup (70 g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons (28 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, at room temperature
- ⅓ cup + 1½ tablespoons (100 ml) skim milk, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Vanilla Glaze:
- ½ cup (80 g) powdered sugar, sifted
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 small pinch of salt
- 1 or 2 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)
- Optional: food coloring and sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan or lightly coat it with non-stick spray.
2. Make the Donut Batter:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, skim milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and fully combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- The batter will be thick.
3. Bake the Donuts:
- Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 of the way full. You can use a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the tip cut off to easily pipe the batter into the pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the tops of the donuts spring back when lightly touched and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
4. Prepare the Vanilla Glaze:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and 1 tablespoon of milk. Add more milk if you want a thinner glaze, adjusting to your preferred consistency.
- If you want to add food coloring, mix it into the glaze at this point.
5. Glaze the Donuts:
- Once the donuts have cooled, dip the tops of each donut into the glaze, coating them evenly.
- Optional: After glazing, add sprinkles or other toppings to decorate.
6. Serve:
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the donuts fresh or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days.
Notes
- You can substitute the skim milk with whole milk or another milk of your choice.
- To make these donuts extra festive, you can add food coloring to the glaze for different occasions or holidays.
- If you prefer a thicker glaze, reduce the amount of milk added.
